Hey, I am a screen printer and I just laughed when I read this because it's right on. People get so disappointed when I tell them to separate their layers and then they get mad if I charge them when I have to do it. I first started to screen print then got into design and I think I have a real advantage. Good read!

Great post!
Being able to read a client is paramount.
Also to add another note, be clear what cababilites your print shop has, or don't promise what you can't produce. I know from experience.
If the Client wants a Affliction style Tee, and you can't print all over the shoulders let them know first, and keep yourself out of Hot water later.

Learning a bit about the printing process will definitely help with apparel design. While in college, I started out as a designer for a print shop, without knowing how the printing process actually worked. With time, I learned what type of things worked well with the screen printing medium, and what things didn't. That being said, screen printing is very versatile, and most things CAN be printed, but the more time it takes to make screens, setup the job, and print, the more it costs. Youtube has thousands of videos explaining the basics, and would be a good place to start.
