Netvibes Obssession Update

News

netvibes.jpg A while back I wrote an article about RSS Feeds and I’m stoked to see that I’ve convinced some of you to follow my obession with RSS feeds and subscribe to the Go Mediazine! Well I had mentioned that I’m an avid Netvibes user and I was working on tweaking everything to my liking. While a little over a month later, I’ve got it a little more “pimped” you could say. Here’s what I’ve got now:

My General Page:

This is a little personal, but you can see what I subscribe to that I would consider “general” or “global stuff.” I’ve got my Chorebuster (looks like I’ve got to mop the bathroom and kitchen floors today, how fun!), Digg, Google News, Clicky Stats, email, Myspace, Netflix Queue, Go Mediazine (he subscribes to his own blog!?), ebay watch list, and my fiance’s Kaboodle wishlist (so I know what to get her for the Holiday). You can click on the image to view it a more detailed form for all you people who are just dying to know what “secret” websites I subscribe to…

My Design Blog Page:

This is a new tab I created to show me all the design related blogs I subscribe to. I’m sure there are millions more I should be subscribed to, but this is where I’m at right now. Instead of visiting all these sites daily, I can quickly see the trends, news, etc offered by these blogs or news portals. The ones I subscribe to are Mashable, David Gensler, Design Meltdown, Freelance Switch, Lounge72, Etcetering, Designfeedr, Emptees, Bittbox, Snap2Objects, Hydro74, Ars Thanea, and ModX (just something I subscribed to temporarily to get new updates on their CMS).

My Sports Page:

I’m a Cleveland Sports nut (hometown) so I subscribe to Cavs, Indians, and Browns news.

My Misc Page:

On this Misc Page it holds everything else I subscribe to. Right now, it’s got stuff like Absolute Punk, Plan-It-X Records Forum, Conscious Loving Message Board, Drummer World Forum, Earners Forum, and Wicked Fire.

Wrap up

Some of these I don’t read all that much, but I like to be aware of what is being talked about on the net in subjects I am interested in. Most of the time all I need to see is the headline and I am aware of the discussion. And that’s all I need. I don’t feel the need to read every entry of every blog I subscribe to. But sometimes I just like to “spy” and keep tabs on what others are doing. If you have any sites that you like to subscribe to, post it in the comments. And if you think I am missing out on something awesome, let me know. I cannot surf the entire Internet daily, so I could be overlooking great quality blogs!

You got me hooked! Damm this is so easy, working with it for only 15 minutes and I don't want without it! ever!
  • I'm shocked, a designer isn't using the option to select colors on the content boxes?

I got hooked on Netvibes after reading Internet Duct Tape's how to create a blog maintenance page with it.

I'm using Googles Startpages and similiar to Lauch I have 3 Tabs @ 9 Feeds of different Content.
  • Yes, very cool.
Although I am a designer who doesn't use RSS feeds, I would rather browse the page when I feel so, and find the newest posts. I am old school like that! :)

I have a total of 11 tabs. Sports, Web Design (for the gurus of web design), Web Design 2 (which is more about sites referring to Web design), Entertainment (tv shows, pop candy), Fark (one tab devoted to fark), TopNews (Newsvine, MSNBC, CNN), Gaming, Personal (my email), Digg, Geek (all tech all the time), and Home Improvement.

I have too many RSS feeds to make it any less. I wish they had more themes to choose from, though.

I would just like to thank you for pointing out Netvibes. It's saved me a lot of time and effort in getting from site to site, and with all those extra hours I have more time to design ;)

It is a pleasure to have you RSSed on my own "design" blog page!
