Adam Wagner’s Weekly Review

Well Jeff’s been encouraging the rest of us here at Go Media to share our weekly reviews, so here it goes:

  • Contributed a few pieces to the 8-Bit and Linework 2 packs to be released with Vector Pack 12
  • Made braid and tooth vector pattern brushes for a forthcoming Illustrator Brush Set. Pattern brushes are a really powerful tool.
  • As always, mined and reported sales numbers in Excel
  • Planned out a product release schedule for the Go Media Arsenal and posted it up around the office
  • Posted free vector fingerprints on the Go MediaZine
  • Started a poll in the sidebar of the Go MediaZine
  • Tried to keep up with all of our new twitter friends!

    Lance, From your stream have you sent the photos to the group pool?

    You can do that by either opening the photos page and clicking the send to group icon, or in your organize page you can bring up a group of images and send them to a group from there also.

    My apologies if you already knew that and it's still not working.
  • Man, Seth Godin made a really good point in that article. It applies to almost anything, and it's so true!

    Oh, and your rainbow gradient-ized texture up there is pretty cool too. I'm gonna have to try that one out!
  • Being a photographer i have to say in reply to
    "why not just take a picture? I still don’t get it."
    where is the respect in 'just taking a photo'
    you are extremely talented if you can make something look real from scratch, in these cases something so real that its hard to tell if its real or not, if you can just take an average photo of something it just means you know how to use a camera

  • @Adam.F - Someone who can create something photorealistic out of vector art is very talented no doubt. That I am not disputing. But when you take a pre-existing photo and vector on top of it, and your final result is EXACTLY like the photo, I don't see the point. Probably some 30 hours went into it and it's definitely a spectacle to behold, but it's more of an ego boost than anything. Take that talent and create something different! Alter it a bit. Make it surreal. I see nothing wrong with admitting that you took a photo. At least make it appear to be handmade and not an exact copy!

    @ the vector photorealism review

    CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!, but if it were me, I would just model the items in 3DS Max and Render them via maxwell studio...would save SOOOOOO MUCH TIME
  • That photorealism stuff is incredible, but I would agree, there's not much point doing it other than demonstrating a huge amount of skill using the programs.

    Very true, i think better exapmles of photo realism are of people who can make something from scratch that looks real, something from the imagination, that has a twist to it, like maybe something you could not take a picture of e.g a robotic girl sat on a motorbike that still hasnt been inviented yet, that kind of thing is far more interesting.
    Sadly i kow nothing of 3D modelling & stuff like that, ive been practising those tutorials to make TV's in photoshop, i find them useful for generally teaching use of gradients & layering for lighting.

    p.s i think you should do more tutorials on hand drawing, then editing from that, thats where it all starts i think.
