Layer Lifter for InDesign

Layer Lifter is a simple, free Adobe InDesign plug-in from Rorohiko that offers an alternative method to using the layers palette for moving objects between layers. Using it couldn’t simpler: first select one or more objects on a spread, and then right-click (Win) or control-click (Mac), and pick a destination layer from the LayerLifter context [...]

Kaleidoscope: Text & Image Comparison Utility

Archived; click post to view. Excerpt: Kaleidoscope for Mac is an interesting new file comparison utility. It looks to be a great tool for both web developers as well as designers, and as far as I know it’s the first utility of it’s kind to do image file comparison. The app is super snappy, and [...]

Blank Canvas: Photoshop, Crashes & RAM

Archived; click post to view. Excerpt: “Photoshop crashed!” I see this cry all over Twitter, on blogs, in web comics — you can’t go anywhere online that has a tangential relationship to Photoshop without seeing this complaint. Scale Objects in Adobe Illustrator Via Keyboard

Archived; click post to view. Excerpt: I’m a big fan of resolution-independent vector art. I’m also a big fan of keyboard shortcuts. It’s been driving me a bit batty that there is no way in Adobe Illustrator to scale objects using just the keyboard. I use this method all the time within InDesign, and feel [...]

Faking Depth of Field in Photoshop (w/Ps action)

Archived; click post to view. Excerpt: Here’s a quick technique that I use to fake depth of field in Photoshop and add realism to my images. I’ve seen this technique mentioned in various tutorials I’ve read, so it’s really nothing new. But it’s a good trick that I feel you should know. 1. Create a [...]
